SCUM SLAUGHTER - ABOUT

Scum Slaughter came about from a variety of influences, which you can read more about on the old about page, but essentially it started off as my own version of the game Manhunt, after I read that the original version was "banned" (actually a handful of shops stopped selling it for a few months. I got a really fucking weird look when I handed it over the counter in HMV a few days later), because some kid topped another one and they both liked playing it. Actually the victim liked the game more, the killer didn't even own it, but that's never stopped the papers, has it? Never mind, there's plenty of rope for der tag, and no prisoners will be taken on Fleet Street.

Anyway, Manhunt was far tamer than the papers made it out to be, and the sick stalk-'n-kill gameplay was only about half the game, anyway. The second half was just any old generic shooter. Still, the damage to it's reputation was done, and the BBFC refused to even rate the equally-violent successor, until it was sanitised. Guess where the mob will be heading next on der tag? (Especially as you can't just release things unrated in the UK... yet).

Disappointed with my purchase, I Immediately started wondering if I could use Clickteam software to create a cruder, but violenter, version of my own. The rough concept for Scum Slaughter was born! The "kill scenes" would probably be more like an animated comic strip, and always have the same level-dependent character and background, but there'd be no static censoring the good bits! The original idea for Scum Slaughter's plot involved the main character, a transsexual Asian British patriot serial killer rescuing her boyfriend from a foxhunting stable, an animal testing lab and a masonic lodge. All three of which I beleived to be "in on" some vague conspiracy to keep the working class down, at the time. There was an even vaguer idea to create a sequel, based on the 2014 revolution of my comic universe. At the time, the 2014 revolution was a left-wing one, though, of course, when we got to the actual 2014 I had drifted very far to the right.

I made a few pages about the games, though didn't actually make any assets, let alone start the "coding" necessary. Then one day I was having a fateful browse of the Keenspace directory, and stumbled upon a webcomic called High Maintenance, which was about a transsexual going around Bristol chopping the cocks off rapists. A kindred spirit was found! I immediately started to make Scum Slaughter as a webcomic, instead. Taking some inspiration from a low-budget horror flick I'd recently seen, called Hunting Humans. The Scum Slaughter comic was something I worked on pretty enthusiastically, it became a vent to let out steam about the retards on both political extremes (or just retards in general) I'd encountered over the years. I got up to the story of the first videogame... and then I was burned out. Also the strip had kind of been meandering nonsense, and the pencil colouring I'd done made it look a bit too "nice".

Around that time, the film Sin City came out, another kindred spirit was found! I restarted Scum Slaughter, this time in greyscale and red (for the blood), but I still wasn't bothering to script it, so it became meandering nonsense once again. Three storylines later, I actually got the chance to hang out with Mal, the creator of High Maintenance, at the UK Web & Comix Thing 2006 (god, I miss that con). I'd printed up 50 Scum Slaughter comics, on the photocopiers in Staples, with the fourth storyline making it's first apperance in them. By the end of that first con I'd reduced the print comic from £1.10 (to make a profit) to 50p (to just get rid of it). I sold about 5. Story number 4 duly made it's internet apperance a bit later... and then I couldn't be bothered to make any more.

The Unscripted nature of Scum Slaughter meant I didn't really know where to take plots, and some of the writing was cringy as hell (Sunita spent the first 3 pages of the re-make talking about her car, until I changed the dialogue and re-scanned it). I did script out part 5, but never bothered to draw it. It was going to be about an Islamic family about to honour-kill thier daughter for dating whitey, before Sunita offs them all with a crossbow.

Despite the fact it was no longer being updated, Scum Slaughter contined to make apperances at conventions right up until 2013, by then I still had about half the original print run left, despite selling it at several other cons for 20p, and finally 10p, so I chucked the rest of them in a recycling bin at my job. And that was the end of that!

I sometimes have ideas about continuing Scum Slaughter, though I'm now far right and quite the transphobe, so it would be pretty different to what's gone before. I still don't know if I'd turn Sunita into an SJW, going about offing people because she overheard them saying something like "black magic" in a pub, or if I'd just ramp up the sick brutality to insane levels in an attempt to make anybody who read it puke... maybe I'll do both!

That said, I don't really have anything against adult transsexuals warping thier minds and bodies, as long as they keep thier genderfluid propaganda away from primary schools. And despite my fascist nature I'm still, at heart, an ultra libertarian who wants the government and thick scum to just keep thier noses out of people's lives. There may be a future for Sunita yet! Probably one in which everything is in gloomy greyscale, except for the important elements of a scene, which would be in muted colours. And there'd be blood everywhere, of course.
