In June 2004, somebody called Doom Rampage released a wad called Doom: Rampage Edition (or "Doom: The Rampage Edition" according to a flash "trailer" on his website), which, if you're reading this in It was actually announced on the front page of Doomworld (it still had a front page, back then), as a TC "years in the making", but as soon as people started playing it, we began to notice it was absolutely terrible. The creator was hilariously incompetent, he was using advanced Zdoom features, but had no idea about basic Doom editing. His "skybox" was a room with sky textures on the walls, and then the actual sky in the ceiling, looking horrendous. The premise was that you played as a Baron of Hell, so obviously you could shoot Baron fireballs, right? Yes, but they were just reskinned rockets, doing splash damage! You could also pick up pistols and shotguns. It did have plenty of levels. I remember skipping ahead to one where you were standing on a spaceship, and a "plasma turret" (modded Arachnotron) fired extremely rapdid-fire plasma balls at you. You had to grab a partial invisibility and then dodge them like a "bullet hell" game. Oh, also the download for the wad was something like 250mb. How could a Doom wad be that big? Simple! He'd read on some forum that you could put mp3s in Zdoom wads, so it came free with multiple copies of entire Offspring albums. Yeah, really adds to the gameplay, that does. Anyway, the creator did not take kindly to the negative reception. A teenager who was able to host a 250mb file online back then was clearly rolling in daddy's money, and rarely told "no". Unfortunately his not taking kindly was mostly confined to his own website, not the Doomworld Forums, so now it's lost to time. I do remember he got one of his friends to come on his guestbook and pump up his ego. This friend clearly had no idea about Doom modding, calling him "The ultimate Doom hacker" for... making a door that opens sideways! Something the friend had "never seen done before". Yeah, doing it in vanilla Doom would be impressive (though Eternal Doom 3 has swinging-open doors), but in Zdoom (and EDGE!) it was a standard effect. - Also, years later, a "Historical Wad Preservation Group" appeared out of nowhere and proudly announced a "cleaned-up and legalised version" of this "historic wad". It was their only release. - Requires, that's REQUIRES EDGE 1.27, 3DGE or EDGE-Classic, or later, to work properly. It WILL NOT WORK in the Zdoom Family. No, it won't "probably be OK" if you "just give it a try". in tribute to Doom Rampage's friend, I became an "ultimate Doom hacker" myself and made EVERY door on the map open sideways... by using an effect only supported in EDGE, which is Wolfenstein 3D's method of making doors. If you run it in any other engine, the "doors" will just be pass-through midtextures. Also a 3D floor may not appear, depending on the engine. Apparently ID were trying to put Wolfenstein 3D doors in Doom 2's secret levels, but it didn't work for some reason, so they just commented out the code and used Doom doors. The EDGE team found the error, so fixed it and re-enabled the Wolfenstein doors. | ||

CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR OUTMYASS.WAD: "Vomit" - Anon "Suck" - Anon "This deserves to rot in hell" - Someone I cant remember "I will kill you, stupid idiot! Suck my cock fucking motherfucker." - Doom Rampage "You can't open any of the doors, what the hell. Just walk right through them like nothing. That really takes away from the game." - Some thick piece of shit that's too stupid to read the text file, just drags it into Zdoom without thinking "John Romero will make this WAD his bitch, flip out, and won't even think twice about it." - An insane guy |
