Let's kick this month off with the "stinger", shall we? Lab glassware left on the same table people put their food on for lunch! Of course, just because it's "lab glassware" doesn't mean it's contaminated with anything. I mean, after washing and autoclaving the inside of it is even sterile! But still, it's "not a good look", as their kind would likely say... and thus, is the stinger! OK, now on to the real fuckups, and another old favourite - a clean, no-need-to-wear-gloves-while-refilling-it pipette tip box left in the gooey disgusting tray for used glassware. If only there were one or two other empty boxes left on the nice clean desk, where empty boxes are supposed to go, to indicate to the stupid fuckers where they should be put, eh? If only there was some sort of pattern for them to recognise and copy, like monkeys, bees or ants are capable of, eh? Nah, that would mean these pigshit-thick, idle fuckers would have to walk another one or two steps. And we all know such a mighty, herculean effort of physical exertion is beyond them. Still, at least the clueless cunts putting the boxes in the dirty glassware tray have some dim idea in thier mind that the boxes get re-used and refilled. Unlike this scum... ..who has fucking FILLED the bin intended for paper towels, under the handwashing sink, with re-useable plastic pipette tip boxes. The mind fucking boggles, it really does. Still, at least paper towels used to dry people's clean hands are, well, clean. It would take truly spectacular stupidity to put the re-usable boxes in, say, a dixie full of category 2 microbiological waste for autoclaving. Of course, this is one of Britain's, nay, the world's top institutions of research and learning, so nobody would be that fucking thick, would they? Never mind... Ah yes, the category 2 waste dixies, the ones full of bacteria which infect animals, but which are genetically modified so could potentially infect humans. This waste gets run in a big autoclave at 135oC for 30 minutes before it gets thrown away. Running a giant electric pressure cooker for that long is, obviously, none too cheap, so we make sure the bins are full before bringing them to the washroom for processing, right? Right? Autoclaves on lower settings were used to make "agar", gooey stuff that gets poured into plastic plates for bacteria to grow on. Obviously, as bacteria absolutely love it, you don't want to leave lumps of it kicking about just in the lab, where any old bacteria riding on dust particles will fall on it and start growing like crazy... Which is what might have been done in this picture. But it was almost 13 years ago now, so I'm buggered if I remember. Now onto the real shit. At some point, we had this safety briefing with a couple of case studies of disasters that happened around the university, and the lessons learned. Well, hopefully learned. Spoiler: They were not learned. One of these case studies was about an unlabelled beaker of clear, liquid "something" just left sat on a workbench for months. Eventually, during a clear-up, somebody tipped "this old water" down the sink. It wasn't water. It was some shit that CATCHES FUCKING FIRE when it touches water. Like the water in the U-bend under the sink. The plastic u-bend under the sink. The plastic u-bend under the sink that's right next to a plastic pipe carrying under-pressure bunsen burner gas. Because the last place the fitters expected there to be A FUCKING FIRE is in a pipe that's kept full of water at all times. Anyway, they managed to get it out before it melted it's way to under-pressure flammable gas. But lesson learned, eh? We came out of that lecture older and wiser, knowing not to leave random, unlabelled beakers of "stuff" just sitting around, didn't we? Did we FUCK, eh? Uh-dud, uh-weee, uh-FUCK-ahhh. The bloke who did this's name was visible in the original picture, but I've edited it out. Still, if anybody who worked there when I was there ever finds this place and wants to complain about it, well, just have a think about that one, eh? He was quite the special case all round, actually. Oddly, unlike Stammer, Shoe Bin, the Tall, Speccy Twats, Shitforbrains McGee and Twattily-Bearded Kraut Cunt, I never nicknamed him. Like his own name was insult enough. I used to imagine if I could get a gun that held 9 shots, and go on a rampage, who would my "hit list" be? He was the only one I'd double-tap, even with such limited ammo, just to be sure. He had this little mini-me he was "training", too. Training, that's a fucking laugh, as if he knew what the fuck he was doing to begin with. Aside from all the usual fuckups that happened in Stammer's lab, him and his mini-me managed to START AN AUTOCLAVE WITH THE DOOR STILL OPEN. Didn't take a photo, have a crap artist's impression, and imagine the door is slightly ajar. That shouldn't even be POSSIBLE, it's supposed to be idiot-proof. But I guess it's not pigshit-fucking-thick scum-vermin proof, eh? |
