Review Do you watch Cartoonist Kayfabe? Well, think about some of the episodes where they've been looking at wierd, art-house manga, or interviewing some old comic creator who did esoteric underground stuff, who is also into obscure electronica and strange movies. Then imagine you could turn that episode into a bar! Well, that's Jan Kounen. It's in an old building and the back room of the bar has tatty old tatami mats and sliding closet doors. The bar area itself has salvaged old armchairs and sofas from god-knows-where, and nothing is on tap. The first time I went, they ran out of beer, just like Claris, but Claris looks like a bar, Jan Kounen is like somebody's front room hastily turned into a bar, so them running out of beer is more "cute" than annoying. Anyway in the front they have a bunch of comics you can read, some in Japanese, some in English, and I think I saw some in French. They even have British ones! Skewed towards "art house" ones, of course. They also apparently have regular tarot readings, it's that sorta place. |

Details Prices not bad, open naninani. The beer always changes, I've had Asahi, Bud and Oettinger in there. |

In Conclusion Fun but can be annoying if it's crowded, the chairs at the bar (right now) are like big armchairs, good luck moving them around when somebody wants to get past! Loads of times in Insta I've seen it full of cool / crazy looking people with neon-blue dreads and the like, but both times I've been it was kinda quiet. |
