Review This is a big place for an otaku bar, but the otaku theme isn't very strong. They have manga to read and board games to play (all Japanese). There's also a bunch of nostalgic Japanese snacks to enjoy on the bar. Unfortunately I grew up with Blackjacks, Fruit Salads and the occasional Bazooka Joe, so those Japanese snacks do nothing for me. They often play anisongs or game music here. They have a fancy DAC amplifier but have married it to a crappy cheapo turntable with that plastic $10 3-speed mechanism. It's like painting a 'tache on the Mona Lisa, is that. Bloody disgrace. The owners are also in a band so it's closed on loads of random days. Some nice regulars, but you can be a bit left out if there's a lot of them in and you don't speak Japanese. Tell the guy what music you like and he'll find it. He's put Terrorgrüppe's Musik Für Arschlöcher on more than once! |

Getting There In Tsuruhashi, on the Osaka Loop Line. If you come by JR, just keep going down stairs until you come out in a semi-covered area next to the subway entrance (DO NOT go through the gates on the JR platform, they lead to another railway). Head away from the subway entrance and through "5 minute alley", so called because breathing the air down there takes 5 minutes off your life. Go left at the end and out into the fresh air, and Recomiya is in the new, dark-grey buildng on your right. |

Details Open nanini, get there early in the month before the closure schedule (just A4 paper taped to the wall outside) has blown away. No cover charge and ¥600 beers, not bad by otaku bar standards. |

In Conclusion Usually good for a quieter night. If there's a lot of you, grab the comfy table and look at manga off to the side, or play board games (come to think of it, bagging the comfy table would be a great place for a TRPG sesh while getting drunk). Oh and have a whip round so they can at least get an Audio Technica AT-LP 60 or something. |
