UPSILON UNIVERSE

The universe of the Doom series of videogames

Ultimate Hell

Set in

0AD (After Doom)

Created in

2003 - (abandoned)

Type

Doom wad

Main Characters

Doom wad

Description

A "re-told story of Doom" type wad, with the story of Doom and Doom 2, in "more realistic" levels, and tons of new enemy types, plus a few new weapons (it was for EDGE). I made a fair bit, then lost loads of work in a crash and gave up. I gave some other guy at the "training" thing I was attending at the time some of it on a CD, and wanted to get it back off him, but never did. Also he might have been murdered later.

Status

Unfinished, abandoned.

Location

A very early version was preserved, maybe on a Zip Disc, now probably lost.

Misc Note

I later planned to restart it, but with a new concept. This time it would be hundreds of years after the demon invasion, and humanity has colonised loads of planets. You land on a planet that the demons have managed to make a portal to, and quest across huge maps with branching paths and hubs. Never made it.

Type

Doom Wad

Main Characters

Some guy

Description

A very stupid Doom wad. Humans have been fighting against the demons for "nearly 20 years", and are unable to make a teleporter that doesn't just summon more demons. They do invent a time machine and a shrink ray, though. So they decide to go back in time and sabotage the original teleporter so the demon invasion never happens / shrink the attacking demons and just step on them / go to 1996 and shrink themselves, in order to study and recruit ants to fight the demons in the future. Anyway, this inevitably goes wrong and you have to fight your way through the base and the ant nest.

Misc Note

I started to remake it for EDGE, but lost loads of work in a crash (Windows XP sure liked to randomly fuck up and need formatting every week or so) and gave up. The "remake" was more of a graphical, and minor architectural, improvement, though.

Much later, I had an idea to totally remake it. The main character would have been a buff, female Asian marine, because I was like that at the time. I never even started that. It would have used Edge's ability to change level progressions and add secret exits to make a "branching path" progression, though. Most levels would have had two exits, so you'd have to play through multiple times to see them all.

The actual name came from a videogame I heard about, but never played, on the Acorn / early Windows PC's my primary school got after I left (but my younger brother was still there). Also another thing I repurposed videogames into in my head / wanted to make a game of before I had a PC or any idea how to make games.
