Republique d' Nouveau Monde

An equivalent to the USA in the Iota Universe, where the British Empire never really existed. It occupies much of the present USA, from New Orleans and deep into the area of Quebec, Canada. The rest of Canada is still ruled by various natives, who have founded modern nation-states in their territories, as these existed in the early 19th century.

The RNM evolved out of several French colonies, some of these remained loyal to the French monarchy, whilst others embraced the revolution. Still others joined the banner of Napoleon Bonaparte. Men from these colonies went and fought in his victorious campaigns in Europe, but were decimated by the march into Russia. The ones who came back did so in a truly republican mood. In 1813 La Guerre d' Nouveau Monde broke out, with the Republicans and Monarchist colonies fighting. The Monarchists suffered a humiliating defeat, and madame guillotine had a lot of work to do. After the defeat of Napoleon, the colonies took the opportunity to declare independence from France. These colonies maintained friendly relations with Britain, even after that country "turtled" and closed off from world affairs.

Part of Virgina has a different, slightly-British look to it, and a fast-fading tradition of speaking English as a second language, due to the early, but failed and abandoned, British settlements.

California, Arizona and parts of Texas are the spanish-speaking "California Republic", much of the rest of South America (Sur Vespuccia) is the same in our world, with the obvious exception that the countries there, when spoken about internationally (for instance, in Japan), are named by their French, rather than English, names.

The Caribbean was colonised by Portugal, and the Falkland Islands were abandoned by Britain in around 1811, being taken over by Argentina and renamed the Malvinas as a matter of course. Almost nobody in Britain has ever heard of the word "Falklands". "America", to British people, is similarly meaningless, except for people interested in history, who know of it as a small British exclave that existed for about 35 years in what is now the RNM.
