General Info:

A gigantic "tank" seen in a Battles story. After I'd given Battles a bigger setting, instead of about 20 kids on each side fighting over a treehouse, it's 300 on each side fighting over an island. The Yellows, nominally the "baddies", have somehow constructed smooth tarmac roads around the island. This giant, slave-powered contraption is travelling from their main base to the treehouse. It passes a small blue base, which is a shed with some turnip cannons on, beside the road. One boy escapes the resulting "massacre" (his comrades are knocked out and captured, nobody got killed in this), and sneaks aboard it.

Eventually he sabotages it somehow, so the friction from the pedal-power mechanisms sets it on fire. Everybody gets out safely, of course, and it's left to burn. This comic actually read a lot like Doom. He kept finding switches that open secret rooms, stuffed with weapons and ammo. Also there's a "boss", the captain of the Red Giant, who is named Roger. Incedentally he's the only Battles character out of the 602 in total who is given a proper name! (Actually, I vaguely recall the boy who destroys the Red Giant being given a name too, in a different story, but I can't remember now).

Variants:

Only one (land) Red Giant ever built.

Origin / Inspiration:

My friend Stephen had an idea for a Cart Wars cart, also called the Red Giant. This was from the phase where Cart Wars had weapons and battles, not just races. His Red Giant only had a modest two stories and a crew of five or so. I took the idea to ludicrous proportions!
