Heat Rays These weapons are used by Starkill in the Great Galactic War. They are fitted to their large capital ships, and require a lot of power. Ships will often attack in groups and arrange "barrages" of firing whilst others recharge. In spite of the name, heat rays do not rely on heat to do damage, but rather antimatter, specifically positrons. A large number of positrons are generated and then directed along an "outer layer" of laser beams. These are excited by stray positrons, generating a lot of heat and light, but this is a mere side-effect. The positrons anniahlate electrons in any matter they hit, dealing devastating damage to both shields and hulls alike. The heat ray assembly resembles a huge crystal, and is quantum-polarised to allow the lasers, fired from within, and the positrons to escape, without also destroying the weapon. This does make the weapon very fragile. If it is hit, the released blast of positrons can devastate the ship it is part of. For this reason, Starkill ships usually have the heat ray assemblies on decorative "arms" or "tails", away from the main body of the ship. The fact this makes them look like gigantic scorpions or gargoyles is a mere bonus.
