Ring Guns These work similar to "lasers", only the superheated gases are stored in long "tanks". They take longer to charge, compared to the same power of lasers, but can fire bursts of many shots at once. Also the rings can be fired from any point along he tanks, allowing multiple targets to be fired at in quick succession. Also all of the charged plasma can be fired at once, in a continuous stream. Not unlike the phasers off Star Trek TNG.
