General Info:

A cannon that shoots turnips; large, hard vegetables. It's a big metal or plastic pipe with strong elastic mounted at one end, with a pouch to load the ammo into. They are used in many tanks / armoured cars / static gun emplacements in my various "childen fighting each other" strips.

Origin / Inspiration:

Seen in a The Jocks and the Geordies strip, from a Dandy annual circa 1976, which we got at a car boot circa 1993. The weapon was quickly adopted into Cart Wars and Battles. The destructive power of an elastic-fired turnip may have been exaggerated somewhat.

One time, I wrote a Cart Wars story at school. It included the line "I fired a turnip at...". One of the assistant teachers took the piss out of it, calling me "turnip" the rest of the time I was there. Yeah, well, at least my car didn't come bottom of the JD Power customer satisfaction survey twice.
