Welcome to Anarchy Doom - the basic remake

Anarchy Doom was my second-ever Doom project (after D2: London 2666, a load of 1994-level nonsense with zillions of enemies and 3 BFG's, 20,000 cells and two invincibility spheres for anything tougher than a Hellknight. The first 7 levels or so didn't even have doors!), and what the very first version of this website was set up to host! Unfortunately I didn't have much of a clue what I was doing, politically or Doom Wadically, so it ended up getting deleted when I overwrote the wad, trying to "put in" an edited colourmap (because I could, not because I needed to).

Anarchy Doom was slightly better than D2: London, the levels semi-resembled real places (lots of city streets and alleys), but it was still pretty ridiculous. You played as a musclebound hunk of an Anarchist with long blonde hair called Harry. He had a girlfriend called Annie (who had big boobs, blonde hair and a ludicrously short skirt) and friends Jack (a hippy stoner) and Tina (a 16 year old punk girl, whose dad was involved in a big chemical company). The enemies, which I'd mainly created by MS Painting over Doom enemies, were cops, soldiers and (even though it was set in the UK) FBI agents. You basically had to storm a chemical plant, dockyard, police station and army base and massacre loads of them. There was also a level where Tina sent a love letter to Annie and was sent to a "brat camp" "scare the kids straight" bootcamp place, and you had to break her out. For some reason the place was filled with cops, too. The powerups were all various drugs, because of course drugs are actually good for you, and even give you superpowers, so that's why the government has banned them.

The "plot" of the wad evolved from "kill cops" into some sort of alien conspiracy coverup thing, where the government have recovered a crashed flying saucer and want to derive alien technology into a mecha suit, then invade the alien planet with it (it was set in a dystopian 2005). It only had about 10 levels (I lost it just after starting to make the last one). I wanted to explain the plot with scripting, but my port of choice, Doom Legacy, didn't have it at the time, so instead I used pickup messages and one intermission text to explain what was going on.

Anyway, now it's 2019 and I have two plans to re-make Anarchy Doom, one set in my fictional Gamma Universe in 2015, after "The Great Revolution" of 2014, and one set in my Kappa Universe, which is a much closer re-make to the original, only the "aliens" the characters think they are "saving" actually come from hell... so it's also closer to Doom itself! But I figured why not get my eye in by re-making the original, too!

The Anarchy Doom Basic Re-make will be intended for limit-removing Boom-compatible source ports which support the extended Dehacked ".bex" format. If you have no idea what that means, it means "yes, you can just drag 'n drop it into GZDoom and it'll work fine". It'll have 12 levels, following the basic plot of the original but with more in-game explanations. How will I do this without scripting? I'll have speech balloons next to the other characters with scrolling text inside! Don't know why I didn't think of that before, to be honest. It'll also make these "cut scenes" 100% skippable. If you just want to get on with running around and killing shit, you can go right ahead. I aim to replace every Doom enemy (even the SS soldier, Romero head and spawner cube) with various cops, soldiers and other assorted people Anarchists hate. They'll also be almost all hitscanners... y'know, just in case you thought this was going to be fun, or something.

Like the original Anarchy Doom (with some retcons - mainly changing the setting to 2015) and the "proper" re-make, this is supposed to be set in the Gamma universe, though it's kind of an alternate universe as it'll look pretty much like the real-life 2015, and have Boris Johnson as Prime Minister (that's just artistic licence). I'll probably load it down with easter eggs referencing other stuff in the Felneyverse and the Doom Community. Mainly the Doom Community of 2000 - 2005

PLOT

NB: From this point onwards I'm also going to LARP as my 16-year old self.

Another Britain. Another 2015.

The so-called "revolution" of 2014 succeeded, and now Britain teeters on the edge of becoming a far-right police state. The great project of European unity lies in ruins, shattered by brutal mob violence, whipped into a hate-fueled frenzy by the red-top media. Hate speech is legal again, the police are armed and pubs have returned to the bad old days where they are a hell of second-hand smoke. Women are objectified on every billboard and cultural appropriation abounds. Gentrification roars ahead in full force as businesses like Tesco and McDonald's move into what were once POC-run healing crytal emporia, destroying the character of working-class areas. CCTV drones, once employed in the vital task of detecting transmisogynistic jokes shared between White men in secluded back gardens, are now used to prosecute quote-unquote "real crimes", such as freelance acts of wealth redistribution by those from marginalised backgrounds.

But not everybody has given up hope. You are an Anarchist, and you and your friends still harbour a hope for a better and freer society. During your work of steadily undermining capitalism, you have heard whispers of an "Omega Project". You don't know what it is, but your friend Tina, whose dad manages a chemical factory in the town, knows it's using a lot of rare and highly-volatile substances. Earlier this evening she told you there'd been another delivery, left unsecured in a yard at the back. You decide it's time for a bit of sabotage - any small blow you can strike for the free world is worth doing.

Luckily, you have a gun that another friend, Annie, was able to "get hold of" during the troubles. There's talk of re-legalising gun ownership in the UK, more playing into the hands of far right terror. You slip the weapon into your pocket and head out of the door. The real revolution starts here!

ENEMIES

Cop

Since the "troubles" of 2014 they're now packing 9mm pistols, at least you get some ammo when you blow them away. They have body armour and are alive, so they're a bit tougher and faster than their doom counterparts.

Detective

Same as the cop, really. They don't have armour so are a bit easier to take out. They also have revolvers so don't drop any compatible ammo for your pistol. You can't just take the revolver because reasons.

Soldier

The willing servants of the military-industrial complex, they're packing deadly rifles and much stronger armour, a force to be reckoned with.

Farmer

These guys like blowing away wildlife with shotguns all the time. They have no issues with blowing way "wrong 'un"-looking troublemakers like you either.

Riot Cop

Heavily-armoured guys packing a "non-lethal" rubber bullet gun, which shoots steel balls with a micron-thick layer of rubber painted on. As it's "non-lethal" they won't mind when you steal one and turn it on them, eh?

Police Sniper

Planted around the rooftops whenever there's serious shit going down, these guys fire incendiary bullets from long range. The good news is you can see their shots coming and dodge them. The bad news is your brains will be splattered all over the street if you don't.

Security Guard

Rent-a-thug skinheads and football hooligans stuffed into snappy branded polo shirts and suddenly called legitimate enforcers of law and order. They have telescopic batons, you have a 12-gauge. Simple enough.

Vivisection Scientist

Trying to find cures for homosexuality, videogame "addiction" and disobedience. They throw bottles at you with surprising force. How about you check out what their insides look like?

Counter-Terrorist Soldier

Watch out for these guys, fast, strong and armed with the deadly "rubber" bullet guns. Dressed all in black, too, so you might not see them coming in the dark!

Army Officer

Packing revolvers, they're not much trouble.

Grenade Thrower

Soldiers who hide out in high places and lob grenades down on you. Blow them away from long range, they're not fun to tangle with up close.

Machine Gunner

This guy stays in one place with a mounted GPMG and hoses everything that moves. Stay out of his line of fire... or try to put somebody else in it!

CCTV Drone

Hovers around spying on people. If it spots somebody the police are "interested in", it can attack them with a taser. Blow them out of the sky!

Police Helicopter

Pigs might fly! Carries a sniper who blasts away at you from high above.

Army Helicopter

Much tougher than it's police cousin, this one blasts at you with relentless heavy chaingun fire. Find some cover, quick!

Tank

You know your political movement has attained legitimacy when the government sends these things at you! ...Or you're just attacking an army base and they had them right there already. Very tough and dangerous.

Mech

Part of the government's plan to invade the homeworld of the peaceful and utopian aliens (who also have incredibly powerful weapons), it has alien-derived armour that conventional weapons barely scratch. Oh, and homing missiles, those aren't much fun either.

ALLIES

ewiyr

Annie

Your best friend, and a brilliant hacker who also knows her way around forums on the Deep Web where she buys all sorts of illegal stuff. Her flat will be your base of operations for many a level.

ewiyr

Jack

A stoner who is into all sorts of new-age stuff and conspiracies. He'll provide you with powerups at various points. He's also a dab hand at hiding things and has concealed various drugs and weapons around and about, search for them!

ewiyr

Tina

Your punk friend. Her dad works for Poluco chemicals and it was through her that you first heard information about the Omega Project. Annie got on the case and you've been investigating it for about a year before the events of the game.

ewiyr

Harry

The player character.

WEAPONS

sadfsf

Fist

Your bare hands, better than swearing at the enemy... just!

sadfsf

Telescopic Baton

Easily-concealed weapon for "security professionals" to carry and lash out with. Of course it's illegal for the likes of you and I to have them, we might get ideas above our station.

sadfsf

Pistol

VERY illegal for normal people to own. This one "fell off the back of a lorry" and was stashed away for the revolution... and maybe the odd fun excursion here and there.

sadfsf

Shotgun

Used by farmers for pest control against things that interfere with their operations - rabbits, foxes, gypsies, hippies, food safety inspectors etc.

sadfsf

Super Shotgun

BOOM! Now you can give the forces of law and order both barrels. Annie got one of these somewhere. Must have also "fell off a lorry".

sadfsf

MP5

Fast-firing and highly accurate. It's loaded with non-lethal rubber rounds, which have a micron of rubber painted over the bullet and thus satisfy UK guidelines for the sale of safe, riot-suppressing weaponry to third-world dictators. So I'm sure the government won't mind if you turn this harmless weapon against them, it's all in good fun.

sadfsf

Tennis Ball Cannon

A product of your technical and Tina's chemical know-how. This thing shoots tennis balls packed with explosives that go off on impact. It also contains numerous lighter flints, bits of shredded metal and tiny glass bottles full of petrol, a glorious pyrotechnic package. Slower-firing and packing less of an overall punch than proper military rocket launchers, though.

sadfsf

GPMG

Pumps out heavy bullets like nobody's business, but it uses 2 of your normal ones per shot (Dehacked doesn't let you make new ammo types!). Lays waste to crowds of normal enemies and does decent damage to helicopters and tanks.

sadfsf

Alien Weapon

A mysterous rapid-firing energy weapon, incredibly powerful, it cuts through almost anything like butter... The government have been after this thing for ages, expect no mercy if you should happen to be spotted with it.

LEVELS

fweq

1: Poluco

Sneak into this chemical plant and blow up the gas cylinders that have been delivered for the mysterious Omega Project, then escape into the streets and down various alleys back to your home. You may encounter Jack somewhere on the way.

fweq

2: Police Station

Security cameras at Poluco captured the whole thing last night. Break into the police station and grab the hard drives before they can pin it on you. Don't forget to destroy the cop shop's own security footage, too! Then escape down the alleys once more.

fweq

3: The Docks

Your escape route takes you through old railway lines and part of the docks. The docks seem very well defended, with police snipers on towers and even soldiers hanging about. What's being loaded on a ship?

fweq

4: Annie's Flat

There's no way you can go back home after all the trouble you've gotten into. Oh well, you were always behind with the rent anyway. Hide out at Annie's flat

fweq

5: Rescue Tina!

Tina wrote a love letter to Annie and her parents found it, so they sent her to one of those "brat camp" bootcamp places to straighten her out. Oh and her constant stealing of chemicals from her dad's shed for explosive and poisonous experiments might have had something to do with it as well. Either way, take no prisoners!

fweq

6: The Farms

Escape from the rear of the Brat Camp and make your way back through the farms and small villages. Just watch out for the farmers!

fweq

7: Army Base

Tina being sent to Brat Camp really pissed you off, it's time to take the fight to the government and capitalism - attack the army base! You find more information on The Omega Project here.

fweq

8: Army Base Escape

Escape from the army base into the countryside once more. The countryside is swarming with cops and soldiers and they can't all be after you...

fweq

9: The Hill

Fight your way up a hill to find out what's being guarded at the top.

fweq

10: Return to the Docks

Head back to the docks to take on The Omega Project and finish this once and for all... you hope!

fweq

11: The Hospital

Well, that went well. Escape and make your way to Jack's house.

fweq

12: Revolution!

The Omega Project isn't quite over, and a warehouse nearby is where the last parts have been taken. The Prime Minister himself is reviewing operations! Take him out and somehow Britain will just suddenly have no government any more. I think that's how it works.

fweq

13: Deathmatch Level

As many of the levels will take place around parts of the same city, this will just be a very large deathmatch level with all of those streets and some of the interiors all connected up. There'll also be open windows, rooftop leaps and extra stairs to reduce bottlenecks / camp spots.

POWERUPS

oufgr

LSD

Heightens your perceptions and lets you see the truth about things... like where the enemies are in the darkness. Basically it replaces the Light-Amp visor.

oufgr

Speed

Makes your metabolism work overtime, and thus your punches much stronger. It also restores you to 100% health. Basically it's the Beserk Pack.

oufgr

Skunk

Gives you 100% additional health.

oufgr

Supaskunk

Maxes out your health and also gives you spiritual protection.

oufgr

Joss Sticks

Inhale the cleansing smoke for spiritual protection

Stinging Roger

The last little bit of a joint, gives a tiny amount of extra health.

oufgr

Police Armour

Provides some protection from attacks.

oufgr

Military Armour

Provides a higher level of resistance from attacks.

oufgr

Backpack

You can carry stuff in it. That didn't really need explaining, did it?
