General Info:

The revolutionary and iconic small car designed by Alec Issigonis, the Mini was a "proper car" in a Suez Crisis-inspired era of fuel-saving bubble cars. It went on to become an icon of 1960's British culture, was updated in the 70's, went back to it's classic roots in the 80's and was finally killed by limp-wristed safety concerns in 2000. It was "replaced" by the BMW 0.5 series, a much larger car, which itself looks small and well-proportioned next to it's replacement, the BMW 0.75 series.

The Mini remains a classic car with almost it's own, entirely seperate "scene" to the rest of classic car fandom. Aftermarket parts and accessories are still being manufactured, and the values of decent rust-free examples are rising.

In the Gamma Universe, the Mini went back into British production as the Watling mk1, though this was actually a quite different car only outwardly resembling a Mini (same size, though). The real Mini, running on hydrogen gas instead of petrol, went back into production in Homonia from 2040, remaining in production until Earth was invaded by aliens in 2315.

"Homonian Leyland" is even more into badge engineering than British Leyland was, resulting in a huge range of Minis...

Hindustan: Based on the Mini City, the cheapest version from 1980, has plastic bumpers and no frills

Watling: Version of the above with a nicer dashboard, seats and chrome bumpers

Morris: Resembles the earlier Minis with external hinges and retro deshboard. Also they build the van and pickup, and thier estate has wood on it

Austin: No frills interior of the Hindustan with the chrome of the Watling on the outside, best selling version. They produce a version of the 1275 Cooper

Rover: Based on the last versions of the Mini's original production run, with nice seats, big arches and a 1.3 engine.

Riley: Looks like the Riley Elf

Wolseley: Looks like the Wolseley Hornet

Triumph: Reproduced versions of the Clubman square-front Minis, including the GT1275. There's also a GT2300 with the engine from a Triumph Rocket III motorcycle in it, sheer insanity!

MG: High performance versions with minilite alloys and bucket seats as standard, they also make a round-front version of the GT2300.

Vanden-Plas: A more luxorious version of the Wolsely Hornet, with 1.3 Rover engine

Jaguar: Looks like the Vanden-Plas but with a standard Mini front

Daimler: Shame as the Jag but with a Clubman front

Rolls-Royce: Looks like the Vanden-Plas but with a Rolls Royce-style grille, extra wide arches and no back seats, the space entirely taken up with a "split bench" ultra-luxury pair of front seats.

Variants:

Felney - Mike has a red one which has been stripped out for hill climbs, registration F489SPC. This is based on one I owned, though I had to sell it when I was broke in Osaka. Tina drives it.

The Gun - Steven Gunn drives a black Watling mk1.
