Comic Treasure 44

Intex Osaka - 8th September 2024

It's been a while since I did a con, but here was one, so off I went!

Back in the day, one MCM event in London shared the (giant) convention centre with a medical conference, and you wouldn't have beleived the whinging and whining in the forums about it afterwards. Just keep your fucking cosplay shoots to one side of the concourse and not the other, it isn't that much to ask now is it? Anyway Comitore 44 also shared the centre with some other expo and guess what happened? Absolutely nothing at all!

Anyway, last Comitore I went to had a car and bike show up one end with a load of modified and itasha cars. This con went one better with TWO car and bike shows! No cosplay shootin' area this time, but as the last one was in January, it probably had to be indoors that time. I saw some great cosplay this time, probably on-point, but as I don't stay up-do-date with current anime or games, I wouldn't really know (I beleive I'm starting up another Julian and Sandy binge, actually. Them or Ramblin' Syd).

Oh, and, also, there were comics! Mostly this con is "fanbooks", IE derivative of an existing famous work. Only porn. I even found a couple of tables doing 16-Bit Sensation stuff, now there's a modern anime I do know! Ironically it actually started out as a doujinshi, now people are doing their own doujinshi of it. Except they're porn.

Actually neither of these is porn, but there's doubtless some out there...

While most of Comitore is fanbooks, I found a fair few that (at least) seemed to be originals. Including "Comic Club", which I got volume 1 and 2 of at previous Comitias or Yonkoma Komachis. I got volume 3 here and a second book in attempt to round up to a sen'sworth. Only the other one was ¥300 so he had to get out change anyway.

I also passed some bloke on my first wander-about who had a sign I misread as "first show", only actually it was the name of his one book, "First Snow". I was feeling a bit light by then, so didn't get it. Maybe he'll be at the next Comitia, too.

There was also the guy handing out these free copy-bons. I think they're all montage pictures of videogame characters. I got the latest one, with a bunch of games I don't recognise. I wonder if he's done FF6 or 7 at any point?

Anyway, it turns out most of the rest of the books I got are just porn of characters I don't know. Time was getting on and, while ComiTore doesn't "unofficially" close up at 1:00 like the numerous Comic City events, I decided it was best not to push my luck or wallet, and left.

"Scarlet" is packin'

I came home on the good 'ole green subway line. They recently launched new trains on it, they remind me of ones on the Londn Underground, with their colourful doors. Only they're bigger, but have much smaller windows, for some reason.

I got home, unpacked and checked out the haul, and then headed down to Namba. Despite a recent injunction to myself that I wouldn't go to bars until the end of the year (saving for a Christmas trip to the UK, and a blowout binge in the Misono building before it closes down), I went to Digital Cafe for a few, and to chat about the con. Didn't do that, but I did mention The Grand Tour in passing, so they played it on the giant TVs they have!
