Tanimachi Book Sale
This is held at an "old book centre" roughly once a month. I only went once, because I keep forgetting about it. The time I went, they mentioned there was an issue of Shoujou Kurabu (Girl's Club) from 1945, the last issue printed before surrender. It would have made fascinating reading, but was gone by the time I got there!
Comic Treasure
One of many "all-genre" (all genres of porn) huge doujinshi events run by Akaboo. They're meant to run until 4:00 in the afternoon, but every fucker packs up at 12:30, so I'm boycotting them.
ALSO each Akaboo con is broken into many "mini cons" with names relating to the series they're selling doujinshi of. I found a site that lists comic cons in Japan, but all of Akaboos mini cons are listed as if they're seperate events! Page after page after FUCKING PAGE! OF THIS SHIT! So fack 'em, they're double-boycotted.
Furuhondori
AKA "(old) Book Avenue". This is an occasional book sale held in an underground shopping area beneath Kyoto station. I found it purely by accident once, and scored a couple of Marvel Essentials volumes for about ¥300 each! Result!
Machi Machi
A book shop in Kyoto, I got some French and German magazines from WW1 there, once! Anyway they also sell at Furuhondori, and even made their own flyer for it.
Kyoto Comic Con
An event I never actually got to go to, something always came up on the day. Anyway around September 2025 was the final one. It was replaced / merged with a "craft" event. Apparently people still sell comics at that event, but they aren't the main focus.
Super Comic City Day 3
I don't know if this was the first time, or if it's a regular thing, but Akaboo (boo!) in 2025 held a "Super Comic City" event, which had the first two days in Tokyo, and the third in Osaka. They did it again in 2026, though, of course, I stayed away.
Okefusa
A shop in Izumisano (close to Kansai Airport) which specialises in retro manga. I had this flyer for years before I finally made the effort to go down there. When I did, not only was the shop missing, the whole row of buildings was! Completely demolished and replaced by a patch of grass!! ...But this shop had actually relocated to a brand new building immediately "behind" where the old one was. So that was alreet.
Naoki Urusawa Exhibition
Held 2016-17 in the ATC Centre, down on the same artificial island where Intex Osaka is. They had some of his really early work, made when he was a little kid! A man after my own heart, if I ever had an exhibtion, Cart Wars would absolutely be included!
Yonkoma Komachi
This one needs no introduction, a small con dedicated to Yonkoma, aka four-panel gag strips. I went to several, though the one in March 2026 passed me by somehow.
