Otaku Bar Review

Review

It's pretty small, has a ton of figures, is brightly-lit (unusual for this sort of bar) and the music is just a looping DVD with clips from anime songs, not actual full songs. The master is very talkative and knows a lot about anime and Osaka's otaku bar scene (he even knows about Anna!). He is also involved in some way with Tamari Bar. It can be a fun night, but keep an eye on that clock! After the last train I guesstimate a taxi back to central Osaka could be ¥7000.

Getting There

This is in the area of Sakai Station on the Nankai Main Line, a further-out part of the cluster of otaku bars around Sakaihigashi Station. the nearest "train" is actually Osoji on the Hankai Electric Tramway. Unfortunately it opens at 10:00, and the last tram that goes back to Tennoji (IE "central" Osaka, though if you're staying around Osaka station you'll have a walk on) leaves at 10:56.

A much better option is going to Sakai Station and walking to the bar, as it's a pretty "straight shot" to the southeast. Aim to be back at Sakai for around 11:45 to be in good time to get back to Osaka. I'm not sure of the avilability of cheap capsule / love hotels in the area.

Details

it appears that sometimes it has snack bar-like cover charges which vary for men and women (no, I don't suppose trans identity is taken into account, get a grip), and sometimes "shot style", which is ¥1000 per hour, plus one drink, and ¥500-1000 for more drinks over the one. I'm not sure the free drink "resets" every hour, but I doubt it.

In Conclusion

Decent. There's not a lot for me to choose between the Sakaihighashi bars, so they all have the same rating. If I lived down there and visited more often, I'd probably have more varied opinions on them.

Useful Stuff

Blahblah

Bonus!

The leaflet I picked up somewhere

Or maybe the master gave it to me, dunno...
