Only a couple of days after a Golden Week trek down to Sakaihigashi for Yorozuya, I was back for Tamari Bar! I heard about this place way back the previous summer (circa July or August 2023) when I went to Fan Club, and the master gave me a card for it. I actually met the master of Fan Club IN here! There's also a mama who is good fun.
This is a big place, as befitting it's out-of-the-city location (though it's in a drinkin' district in it's own right, this must be one of the party centrals of Sakai). The bar is curved and sticks out, just like the one at Mofuru Nipponbashi, but not as obnoxiously, and the bar is utterly crammed with anime figures and posters, unlike Mofuru's distant afterthoughts. The people here know their stuff! Also the chairs are very big and comfortable.
There's karaoke too, but it's not too loud. They told me the night I went was "all genre". I guess there's themed nights, and sometimes it's anisongs only, or vocaloids only etc.
The toilet is kind of wierd, it's shared, but there's a urinal and cubicle in there, so make sure you lock the main door! The toilet also has loads of anime decoration inside.
Getting There
Bit of a hard one to explain in text. Come out of the west exit of Sakaihigashi station, pass the taxi and bus ranks, then cross the road on your left at the crossroads. Pass more buses and you'll come to a big load of motorways and pedestrian bridges, ignore them all and just go left, walk down to the next street-level crossing. Go over and then at the next crossroads, go diagonally right (not "straight right"), and in it's in the "Royal Palace" building with stairs outside.
Details
The first hour and a half is ¥3600 for men and ¥2100 for women. Each hour increases the price up until 3 and a half hours, where men reach the max charge of ¥7000; and women ¥5500. Some drinks cost extra, but beer and a bunch of cocktails etc are all nomihodai.
In Conclusion
Reasonable.
This poster was put up in a junior high school I worked at in Sakai. Is Golgo 13 really suitable for 12 year olds?
Well of course it's fine, but we're supposed to pretend...
