Welcome to my list of Kansai-area (well, mostly Osaka*) otaku bar reviews! There is a website that documents otaku bars, and several sites that document bars and resturants around Japan in general, but they are all aimed at a Japanese audience. Also a lot of smaller bars might not have a very prominent presence on Google Maps. One of the ones I regularly go to doesn't show up on Google Maps at all, unless you search for it's specific name. Still others are more otaku bars by the crowd they get in, or the associations of the staff, than because that's what they set out to be.

Criteria

Most of the bars on this list I found via looking for アニメバー or オタクバー on Google maps. Obviously, as I said, this ends up leaving a lot of places out, so several others on the list I know because I've visited them personally, and found them by the time-honoured tradition of just wandering about. That's what safe streets do for you, eh? Eventually I hope to visit everything on the list and review them all. Of course, I can't gaurantee they will still be open when you read this, but I'll do my best to keep on top of things. I'll also keep on the lookout for other ones as I wander about. My Google Maps searches turned up suspiciously few in Umeda. There must be more up there!

- Crap. This can mean a combination of too expensive, standoffish staff, an insular crowd who don't like outsiders etc.

- OK bars with only one or two of the major flaws mentioned above. Go if you like the sound of the theme.

- OK places, but not great. Once again, check out the review and go if you like the sound of the theme (maybe you want a place that's quiet / packed / dedicated solely to JoJo, etc...)

- Good bars, recommended.

- This means I have been there, but I don't remember well enough / didn't stay long enough, to make a proper review.

- Nah-chan means I can't / won't go there.

- Ripoffs, scams and / or completely terrible.

*-Most / all of the reviews will hopefully, eventually, also have a video guide for how to reach them. For the ones in Osaka prefecture I'm assuming somebody will be starting from the centre of Osaka City. For ones in other areas (like Kobe and Kyoto) I'm not so sure. If I do any in Tokyo I'll probably just shoot from the nearest station. IF I ever go to any and do reviews, anyway!
