General Info:

Born in the year 2000, to John and Joyce Gunn, who fell in love (though they were having casual sex at the time too) during the 1996 Fenland zombie attack. They got married a few years afterwards and had Steve in 2000. In 2006, they moved to the parish of Felney, where Steve thought he saw a zombie climbing out of the ground. But a search of the area revealed nothing, and anyway, contrary to horror-film-belief, zombies don't "dig themselves up".

Steve wanted to join the army cadets, but his early life was during the EU dictatorship, and organisations like the cadets, scouts, guides etc were banned, as "militaristic and imperialist". In mid-late 2014, the EU was destroyed during "the great revolution". This didn't really come near Felney, though somebody did chuck a brick through a shop window in nearby Ely, and in nearby Newmarket, fierce fighting broke out over the racecourse, as pro-EU activists attempted to saturate it with diesel and prevent a revival of horse racing. In 2016, Steve joined the British Army proper, shortly after a major reorganisation (and expansion) of it. He went into the 57th Cambridgeshires - a regiment taking the number of, but otherwise unrelated to, the old West Middlesex "Die Hards".

2016 was also a year which saw a sinister organisation called Intersoc come into the public consciousness. Over the period 2015-2019, Intersoc staged coups in Pakistan and Afghanistan, then swept across the rest of the Middle East, Central Asia and West Africa. Sympathisers also appeared in the civil war-torn USA, helping Intersoc to buy up and ship out equipment such as F-15 and F-22 fighter jets and Abrams battle tanks. Despite Intersoc controlling such a vast and diverse area of land, they seem to impose a kind of peace upon it, with various groups such as Shia and Sunni Muslims, previously at each other's throats, living in peace - though possibly a peace born of fear! Despite it's location, rumours abound that the leaders of Intersoc are Europeans - some might even be British. Many leaders of the EU dictatorship were never found after the revolution.

In 2020, Intersoc tries to expand it's empire further, into China (also in a state of civil war), Russia and Europe. This leads the United Nations to form a temporary, united army called the UNA - which Steve is a part of - and declare war. The world's ICBM's are knocked out by satellite weapons in the early stages, and then a huge scattering of scrap metal in space knocks out all the satellites. This means the armies both have to perform patrols using the MK1 eyeball - on one of these, Steve captures an advanced Intersoc prototype called The Gun

Character Origin:

When I was young I knew a guy called Steve, who lived out in the middle of nowhere and had some shotguns, plus a BB gun which we used to shoot holes in paper targets with. Because he was in the middle of a load of fields, with dry ditches (or trenches) and overgrown, disused barns (or ruined cities), we used to play soldiers whenever we went round there. Except on the occasions when a working motor vehicle was available, anyway! (There was once a MK5 Cortina or Nissan Bluebird, which his dad said he could drive around a field until it was wrecked. But I wasn't there for the 'occasion' XD)

Another idea we had round there was to make a war film. This was to have involved using action figures as the "actors", and for some reason 'talking voice box' things that came with these figures for the dialogue (as opposed to, say, us acting and using our voices for the dialogue). This later turned into an overly-ambitious sci-fi film instead, but that plan (and a later game I played, which involved speeding up and down the road on my bike shooting at mosquitoes with a water pistol) fed into the ideas for a World War 3 (as did a series of "quick build" Airfix kits available at the time) fought between two international armies named "Wolf Force" and "Stealth Force". Inevitably I did a comic about it, and (in a big departure from my normal form) I decided to give the main character of the comic an actual name! As the comic was called The Gun, he was named Steve Gunn.
