MAN FINED FOR HOARDING FIREWORKS Residents urged "Don’t panic" as a shop, crammed with fireworks, was stormed by police. On Thursday afternoon, after tip-offs by worried residents, police raided the "Whats Cookin'?" store on Muck street in Felney. They discovered at least 5 tons of fireworks crammed into a small store room, this is way above the legal limit which can be stored together by a private business. The situation was compounded by the fact that the shop sells Barbeques, firelighters, matches, gas cylinders and white spirit. The owner, Norman Krull, was arrested and later fined more than £11,000. The investigating officer, Yaxley Farcett branded the scene inside the shop as "So dangerous its almost funny". While the fireworks where removed local residents where told to stay indoors and not panic, as the situation was under control. To avoid worrying residents, the police produced an artists impression of the worst case scenario to illustrate that one of the county's best-known landmarks would remain unaffected. However a few residents pointed out that the landmark in question is more than 25 miles away from the shop. |

After the incident, local Council official Brenda Hillman made a statement that a 5-page colour leaflet would be produced by the council to give advice on the safe storage of fireworks. Some of the vitally important points in the leaflet include: -Don’t store explosives next to old, open electric space heaters. -Don’t rummage around in a cardboard box full of fireworks with a fag hanging out of your mouth -Don’t dispose of unwanted fireworks by pouring petrol all over boxes of them and lighting it -Vote Tory |
